My husband and I started our company nearly eight years ago. We are very successful, and there is a reason for that. We know what we are good at, and we stick to it. There are a lot of things in our business that we rely on others to do, because we know that they are better at it than we are. One of those things is hiring when we need an executive level position filled. We looked into senior marketing recruiters four years ago when we decided to hire a marketing director, and we knew then that we would always go that route when we needed to hire at that level.
For entry level positions, we just rely on our HR department. This is not anything against those workers, but our HR personnel is quite capable of hiring for those positions. For executive level positions, we want to have more of a say in who fills those spots. The right person can increase a company’s bottom line, but the wrong person can sully a company’s reputation pretty fast. We knew that it was best to leave this to a headhunter since they would have more experience with the people who would be applying for this position anyway.
The recruitment company knew that we would be repeat customers if this worked out, so it was in their best interest to make sure that it did. They carefully screened quite a few people until they were able to give us a short list of applicants that we personally interviewed. It was very easy to tell that they take their work seriously, because every applicant was perfect for the position. The hardest thing we had to do was select just one of them! We have used the same recruitment company several times since then, and we credit their expertise in matching people to businesses as one of the reasons we continue to grow at such a fast rate.
